I have a 1979 xs250. No history whatsoever as it was from a deceased sale. Its solid, got it running perfectly now working on the cosmetics.
The fuel cap is peppered, a few bits of chrome missing and generally tatty. No problem thinks I, buy a new one.
Not so simple the one I bought is meant to be right according to the part numbers etc buts its too short.
The original is 12.5cm long overall. The new one is 11.9cm long. The mechanism just does not line up.
Its possible that the tank isn't original, perhaps from another model?
This is where I need help. Can I ask anyone reading to measure their caps,
if anyone has a model that matches mines dimensions (12.5cm overall) let me know what model / year it is so I can try to hunt one down.
Thanks in anticipation. John
