Hey, i bought an XS400 SE 4G5 some time ago, the PO told me it has no electrical starter, but the manual says different. So i thought of restoring it, is it easy to do? I don't have much experience with engines, but i do like to piddle.

they are simple devices, clean the commutator, check brushes, check wiring. ensure the windings are not damaged and spin the bearings

Well, some models came with the electric starters and others did not. Have you verified that yours did by looking at the bike rather than the manual? If it once had the starter, I guess it would be as simple as seeing what it missing and buying the parts to replace them. If it did not originally have the electric starter, I would not try to add one.
