Hi guys, i have been mounting a xs400 engine on a quad, now i need help with the eletric part, i have been reading some tópics and stil with doubts. I have a 6 wire old Reg/rec from another engine but i dont know if it Will fit. If anyone could tell me what Reg/rec are using and how to connect it, on the pics below you can see the color off the wires that come from the alternator, i would really apreciate some help.
Btw sorry if my English is not correct i'm from Portugal

Welcome to the forum.

In your picture of the wires, the yellow is from the oil pressure switch, the blue is from the neutral switch and the black and green ones are the field coil leads from the alternator which get connected to the voltage regulator. In stock form, the XS400 uses a separate regulator and rectifier. The regulator needs to be a ground (earth) switched regulator. See this post from @tstidham for more info on that: https://www.xs400.com/threads/re-ring-dodge-vr-and-starter-clutch-springs.20579/post-186275

I would pull off that side cover and check. There should be a bundle of three white ac volt wires and the pair for the field coil. A common failure for the three ac voltage wires is for the insulation to harden and crack and perhaps they broke off just inside the cover.

If i put 12v directly to green Wire and black to negative battery, from that 4 wires i have around 10v each, and i have measures the resistência ohm beetwen them and its 0.8
