So I have been thinking about my wiring and I am stuck because my old connections were very brittle and fell apart when I pulled them off the ignitor box. Can any one shed some light on which wires go to which letters, or better yet does anyone have a picture of their ignition on and 82-83 maxim or seca. Thanks for the help. I would guess the color coded wiring schematics on this very site might help you a bit.

Even though it's not for a Seca/Maxim, it should work:

Looks like the red/white on the end goes to the + side of the ignition coils, then the Gray wire goes to the left coil and the Brown goes to the right coil. To be sure, check the wires coming out of each coil.

I would be glad to take pictures of any of my wiring that is visible without actually disconnecting any wiring. My bike is a stock and unmodified '84 Maxim, manufactured in 1983.
Where on the bike to you need to see the wiring?

From the DOHC wiring diagram:

There are a total of 8 wires for the connectors.

a = Gray
b = Black
c = no wire - leave it unconnected
d = Gray
e = Black with Yellow stripe
f = orange
g = Red with White stripe
h = black
i = orange

All wires on the 4 prong side lead to the wiring harness.
All wires on the 6 prong side lead to the pickup.

Source can be found in the 1983 Seca manual on this site, Appendix page 7-57 (which is my favourite wiring diagram, because it shows which connectors go where, how they are shaped, and which wires attach to which prongs.)

I thought I had all the diagrams but I guess Im missing a couple parts to it because I dont have a 7-57. UUUUUGGH. got a link for me by chance? this site sucks to search. Lou Ranger that would be awesome. I just would like a picture of the wires that go into the ignitor unit. It is hook on to the air box under the seat. Dont get it confused with the reg/rec which can be identified with the three white wires that lead into it. Thanks Lou

Ok so I found the manuals again and the only one I didnt have downloaded was CH7, so I got it now but LOu if you could still take a picture that would be great thanks

Ya that diagram is much better than the ones they put in the electrical section. Wierd

There you go, assuming that I might know the difference between what an ignitor unit looks like and a reg/rec. :laugh:
I will take a picture of anything which does NOT have 3 white wires coming out of it. And if I can get the seat off, that will be a bonus. I'm sure I can do it, just have never tried. Nothing under there has ever been broken so I have so far resisted the urge to "fix" anything. That's why I put so many miles on last year - whenever I did tinker, it seemed like the bike would be out of commission for days.... :wink2:

HAHAHA ok. I didnt know the difference until about 3 months ago. If it helps the ignition unit with have wires dirrectly plugged into it and the reg/rec has wires the come out of it and go to a connector. If that makes any sense. The seat should be really easy. If its like the seca its just a latch underneath.

I hope these can shed some light on the matter for you.
There wasn't much light being shed outside today at the 1,300' level. Very dull and overcast

which made the camera flash go off.

Hopefully the glare will not be a problem. If it is, let me know and I will take more on the first sunny day.
