Inside the float bowl of the Mikoni BS34 is a rubber mushroom.
1. what is it covering?
2. inside the hole seems to me a side vent, does the mushroom cover it or should fuel be going from the main jet into this place? if the mushroom covers the side jet...is this a problem??
3. Does anybody know the depth size of the mushroom?

When I needed to replace it I just found some rubber mushrooms at the local forestry depot and used them, it starts to occur to me that these mushrooms have a purpose and mine are covering up the side vent. I have cut them smaller but I would love to know their real size.

I get lots of different opinions, does the mushroom have to really be there? what is it covering and why?

Ok, I will close this thread from what I have learnt myself about this issue.
The mushroom covers the pilot jet. This jet is for the idle, the mushroom covers the hole and then the only way that fuel can go in to the pilot jet is via a small hole inside the bore that connects main jet and this pilot jet together.
If your mushroom is too long the bore hole will be covered and fuel flow to the pilot jet will be stopped.
Some youtube videos will tell you that you can run without it, I think it will be rich but I dont know what the outcome will be because I put a new mushroom in its place. I bought a packet of mushrooms of 5.8mm width and cut them to be 8mm length and now the bike seems to idle much better.
I always try to close a thread even if I find it myself, I work on a help desk and I hate it when a customer finds a solution to a issue we have been working together on for days and does not tell me....
So, this is the story of the mikoni mushroom.
