my chain is exactly a half link too long. they don't make a 530 o-ring half link unfortunately so my next idea is the sprocket. does anyone know the stock tooth count for either front or rear sprocket on an 81? do they make a sprocket that would take up just a half a link of space?

16/37 on my 82'. I would think for that short of a distance you could just adjust it out. Have you tried to tighten the chain any?
You could shorten the chain.
truthfully yes, i can just tighten the chain tensioners on the axel plates. as its a completly custom chopper my range is a tad limited due to my fender. the axel bolt being in the all the way forward postion now the chain woulda fit perfectly a half a link shorter with no worrys on the limited range for when my chain stretched.
