Hey all, just want to introduce my self and my bike. Picked it up for $100 and the electrical was a disaster so I yanked it all off to start iver from scratch and I am hoping you guys can help me out a little bit.

I had the 3 stator wires bare in the area close to the neutral switch and I have repaired these, the field coil wiring was good and solid so I left that. Replaced these oil switch wiring also. The connectors for the stator and coil were melted so I ordered a connector kit and that will all be replaced or hard wired.

This bike had a wood grain piece of aluminum as a batter / electrical tray so that had to go. I will build something in the future when I decide the path I want to take with the bike.

I need help identifying these components in the pictures. Also pictures is the bike in question. I believe the last photo is the safety relay but the other I am not sure.

Welcome to the forum. That bike has had a serious ass-idectomy, and perhaps it has some other things as well so you have your work cut out for you. But for CDN 100, it is certainly a good candidate for a project.

You might have a later wiring harness based on the wire colors at the plugs in your pictures. But, the long rectangle looks to be the turn signal cancelling relay and the small cube looks to be a turn signal relay (Yellow, Red, Blue with Black tracer and Red with Yellow tracer) from a later XS400. Check the wire colors at the plug to identify these things.

Yeah this bike has certainly been butchered but that’s fine. It’s something to keep me occupied for now. I’ll get the thing running and then figure out what I’ll do with the rear end. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything on the ignition / charging system. I have the reg / rec unit, stator, field coil, coils, points all connected and I think that should be it. The whole harness was run along the frame and “connected”. Stuff was melted, frayed wires, melted rectifier, so I pulled it all out and decided to rewire the whole system. I have everything pretty much ready to go, just waiting on the gasket set to seal up the left side engine case.
