Hey guys, recently bought a 79 xs400, the top end has been rebuilt and it’s been bored .50 over and has mikuni vm30 carb kit. Would I be able to go to pod filters without rejetting? Still new to motorcycles in general and haven’t messed with the carbs at all yet so any advice is appreciated

Welcome. Love that 2 into 1 exhaust header!

Would I be able to go to pod filters without rejetting?
The VM30 carbs are supposed to be pretty tolerant of intake changes, but every bike is a little different and you won't know until you try them. That said, those UNI pods you have on there now are sort of the gold standard of quality when it comes to pod filters. I understand it is a fashion/look thing, but most other pod filters are POS compared to the UNIs.

Also, what jets are you using now in the VM30s? Is the bike running well with the current setup?

That was exactly the answer I was looking for, I mainly wanted to know if I could get better quality than what I have, but from what it seems previous owner used the best of what he could get for everything. And I know! Thanks! I love the 2-1 exhaust, PO said he made it custom. And I believe the jets that came with the carb are what’s in it, he didn’t mention upgrading the jets, but the bike runs fine now, a little hesitation/cut out everyonce in a while as I go to roll onto the throttle, but once it gets good a warm that seems to mostly clear out. As of right now everything on the bike seems to be working great, but I just want to learn as much as I can about these carbs before I have to mess with these, as I’ve not fooled around with motorcycle carbs much especially dual carb setups

I was going to say the same as the capt'n as those uni's are basically pod filters. How is it running? Pretty cool looking scrambler build.
Thanks man, eventually gonna turn it more into a cafe racer, but I dig it for now! And yeah about the filters I was mainly curious on the Quality of the ones on it. The bike runs pretty good right now! A little hesitation here and there but nothing to crazy, mostly if I’m just cruising at idle and start to roll into the throttle it’ll sometime cut out, and sometimes I can just feel a little hesitation at full throttle, most of this goes away once the bike is good and warm
