I can only get bike to run for like 15 seconds. My oil light sometimes goes off or turns on even thought I have full oil in bike. Does bike need the oil sensor? Thx for any help.

Oh yeah it's a 79 xs400.

The Oil Sensor is not needed for Running the Engine, it is only for giving you a hint

The bike will run just fine without it. if you suddenly hear all your tappets making a lot of noise that will be your warning that the engine has no oil. So, ride for fun but keep your ears ready for a change of sound in the engine as the oil actually acts very well as a sound dampner.
