winter project started, in August!!
finding some unexpected things from the previous 9 owners. HA! some I knew as I have the original service manual from 82, with notes from owners. some are just frustrating, like the shotty painted engine parts.........................
years of grease to clean......
but at least I can relax in the shop and have some fun over the cold winter. cant believe I'm saying this but I cant wait for spring, to let her fly.
going to keep stock, other than bars. maybe lights. we will see what pops up. but here is the beginning.
had to laugh when I pulled the back fender, and saw how the lights were wired (last pic.......) hope I don't find more things like that.
Enjoy:

It's good that you are doing it right this time. Keep posting pics of you progress.

Make sure you put all your bolts and nuts in separate bags and label them so you don't forget what they are.I forgot to do this on another project and screwed myself bad.Took a lot of guess work trying to figure out where everything goes.

ya! have done that before too...... the bolts that can go back in, I put back in there spot. (as im not doing a TOTAL teardown this winter) the others I wrap in masking tape, with a label....... I use the writing on masking tape method. same with wires...... works with my brain better haha.
I did use a pizza box with with the bolts for engine covers with outline drawn. read it on here somewhere. best idea ever!

start cleaning/degreasing next. ordering some gaskets, and boots. and going to see if I can salvage exhaust, but may just buy new.
with all the choises, does anyone have some favorite setups? I want a little more noise. and do not want 2 into 1.

no updates for a while, but been busy!
a couple pics of my engine painting. decided I am not tearing down engine this year but it needed something to brighten it up. as it was dirty, and PO did a crap job. next winter if I pull engine, I will figure out something for it.
now I have been polishing all my engine covers....... time consuming, but coming along. I will post some pics of them when I get them to where I want them
having fun, with this bike.

well sanding and polishing is going well. a lot of time, but will be worth it
3 down 2 to go!!!
they all resembled the before pic. other than the few deep gouges in the chain cover and stator cover. that are now removed!!!
now for some mothers aluminum polish and final buff and these 3 are done!
feels good to bring back the shine!

ordered parts yesterday!!!
-carb kit
-all new carb screws, as old ones had stripped heads........
-engine gaskets (whole pack cheaper/easier than trying to find specific ones)
-kick/shift rubbers
-new chrome levers
-intake boots
-oil filter

priced out MAC 2-1 for $399 Canadian. not sure if that is a good price yet......
once I get exhaust, and rebuild carbs, it will go in to be re-jetted. as I think I would rather pay someone to figure it out then me........

been looking at voodoo vintage and I am liking the hard tail look but I think that will be next winter when I take engine out anyway. but really liking the hard tail..........
