Hey guys, so I just bought an 81 xs 400 and want to customize it. I was thinking either a bobber or a café racer, I like both ideas. I have a lot of experience with motors and electronics, and basically everything except fabrication/welding. I was wondering what build would have the least amount of fame modifications. I was also wondering what some good website are to order tires, rims, tanks, seats, gauges, ect. I will be posting my picutres as I progress with my build. Thanks guys.

Well a bobber by definition has a lot removed so frame modifications are a given, but for a "cafe racer" you don't necessarily have to modify the frame at all.
Just because everyone, their dog, their cat, and the fleas, cut off the back of the frame and put a seat hoop on, doesn't mean you have to do that to qualify as a "cafe racer."

The earlier models were almost cafe racers already. Flatten that 81's seat out and you're done.
