    Hello All,
Checking to see if anyone has used the OEM shim replacement tool YM-01245 with success? I bought what I though was the replacement tool MP 08-0020 but I am unable to get to work. It doesn't seem to go down far enough to hold the bucket in place and replace the shim.

    Thanks,
    Laidback

I apologize if this was somewhere else on the site, I was unable to find it

Nope. It is easier to insert a thick nylon wire tie through the spark plug hole and then close the valve on it. This provides lots of room to change the shim and takes seconds to accomplish.

I'm doing something wrong - put thick nylon wire (1/8,1/4 inch thick?) in spark plug hole when cam is pushing down on shim, then continue to spin clockwise?
I folded a zip tie put it down spark plug hole and spun engine clockwise, got alot of resistance and stopped and then other attempts the zip tie just pushed up out of the spark plug hole.
If I'm understanding this correctly, I am trying to get the nylon in between the valve and valve seat?

    Thanks

Get yourself a bright flashlight and shine it down the spark plug hole. When a valve is open, you will see the head of the valve. Insert the wire tie between the valve and its seat and rotate the engine so that the valve closes on the wire tie. It may help to bend the wire tie into an "L" shape.

Yes, I see the valve open with the flashlight. I got the zip tie in between but it doesn't create enough clearance to get the shim out. I will find something else that will create a bigger gap. Thanks for your help.

Bye the way that is an impressive list of mods to your Maxim, the suspension on mine is in definite need of an upgrade - another future project.
