Good on ya! While you have the TCI off, you might as well take the top off of the box and have a look around inside. One of the other advantages of these early TCIs is that they are not potted into an epoxy brick, so everything is available for visual inspection.I checked all my wiring, but not the wiring going from the connector to the box itself. Turns out that was the issue...
Clean the board up a bit with some isopropyl alcohol and do a thorough visual inspection. See if any capacitors are starting to bulge or leak and see if any copper traces on the board look corroded or if any solder joints look like they are cracking. If things look good, you probably are good to go for a long while.
