What did you do with your XS today?

I checked all my wiring, but not the wiring going from the connector to the box itself. Turns out that was the issue...
Good on ya! While you have the TCI off, you might as well take the top off of the box and have a look around inside. One of the other advantages of these early TCIs is that they are not potted into an epoxy brick, so everything is available for visual inspection.

Clean the board up a bit with some isopropyl alcohol and do a thorough visual inspection. See if any capacitors are starting to bulge or leak and see if any copper traces on the board look corroded or if any solder joints look like they are cracking. If things look good, you probably are good to go for a long while.

I am still planning on doing the TCI teardown thread, so if things change with you and your TCI, hit me up!

Will do, thanks Cap!

I got so preoccupied with the oil leak I had that I forgot to post this ride. Here is Trusty Rusty in front of the David Sarnoff Research Center.

This was the R&D lab for RCA Corp. It is somewhat overshadowed by the accomplishments of the better known Bell Labs (locations of which are also on my list to visit.) Nevertheless, inventions like color television and CMOS semiconductor technology came out of this building. If the people that worked here rode motorcycles, they probably would have been on a BMW R90 setup as a sidecar outfit not an XS400. I imagine that they also smoked a pipe while riding....
