Hi everyone, I’m aware this is a XS400 forum but I believe there isn’t a XS250 forum? I was wondering if someone would be able to help me out with the carbs on my 250 engine.

I recently bought an off-road buggy with a XS250 engine on it and it idles pretty high but not having much experience with bike engines I was wondering if someone would be able to help me out with getting the idle sorted?

Thank you.

I scooped some info from the Haynes manual about the carbs. Looks like yours should (should, if it's a custom project you might have different carburetors) have Mikuni BS32 models.

There's all kinds of good stuff in the Haynes manual, there's a Dropbox link here. It does cover the XS250, even if most of the info is for the XS400.

Your carburetors are where you should focus. Potentially, you may just need to adjust your idle speed, but you might also have an air leak or a weird air-fuel mix.

How many rpms is it idling at? I can't speak for the xs250, but the xs400 idles at 1200 rpm. I'd imagine the 250 is similar.
I’m not 100% sure because the gauges/ tach isn’t on the buggy. But I’d say it’s definitely higher than 1200rpm maybe something like 2000-3000rpm.

I believe it’s still running the BS32’s but thank you very much I’ll give the manual a read!
