Recently acquired an xs400 special. New mirrors, front master cylinder and hose, plugs, tires, air filters, brake shoes on the way. I'm currently on either greasing or replacing the bearings. The old ones are being stubborn. The front sprocket area under the cover was packed full of mud. The last ride, or rides, were evidently through the slop. Good news was that the engine ran ok when I put a little gas in. I still need to wash out the rust on the inside of the tank. Overall the bike is in fairly good condition. My main ride is an 09 Honda VTX 1300. The wife has an 02 vstar 1100.

Welcome from Alabama. Just finished restoring an 82' Heritage Special for my son. Ours was purchased new by his grandfather.

The wife and I have been looking for a project bike, smaller and lighter, one that will fit in the back of the truck. We bought the 400 at an auction for $350. We haul the bike and have a bumper pull trailer. This one might also ride on the back of the trailer, if it will handle the weight.

Sounds like a solid project! The XS400 is a great bike, and it’s awesome that the engine ran okay. Cleaning out the tank and dealing with those stubborn bearings should get it in great shape. Nice lineup with the VTX 1300 and V-Star 1100 too, both solid cruisers! 🚀

Hey, congrats on the 400! Sounds like you're well on your way to a good project.

Gotta say, a Wrangler with the top down is the best kind of convertible, she's got good taste.
