Hey guys, im still working on getting my XS400 up and running, at the moment I'm dealing with the left side spark plug not sparking, I've traced and replaced everything up till the Mikes XS ignition system which I installed today and funny enough I get no spark on either plug but I can feel that the coils (new) are warm.

Im highly convinced it's a wiring problem that the previous owner left. I say this because some connectors aren't connected and are just tucked away which seems suspicious.

What I want to know is if anyone has a simple version of a wiring diagram and any tips on how to take care and understand what the wires on my bike actually do.

Thanks!

If your wiring harness is stock a simplified wiring diagram may be leaving things out.
The service manual threads at the top of The Garage have manuals with wiring diagrams available for download.

It's a shame you've introduced so many variables with new coils and an aftermarket ignition.
Those Mike's ones are knockoffs made in china so they don't have a great reputation.
Do the new coils match the stock ones as far as primary and secondary resistances are concerned?

Have you left the ignition on for long without running the bike? Coils can burn out from heat all on their own if left powered up but not running.

New and correct spark plugs?

Thanks ill check those diagrams out

The mikes ignition is something I'm not a fan of either but the bike came with it and at this point I really just to get it up and running. The bike originally had the left coil as stock but it looked really beat up so I replaced as a part of my debugging
currently I have 2 EMGO Ignition Coils

The spark plugs are also new, just took the old one off the bike to my parts store and got new ones, the bike hasn't sat with its ignition on for to long, I really only turn it on to test for spark as I try to figure out this spark issue

Im really convinced its a wiring thing but I've never messed with a wiring harness to pinpoint where the error is
