Thanks for the advice Chris I'll keep the h pipe and see how it goes.

What's better to do, direct to carbs or keep the h shaped boot? My buddy seems to think I'll have less issues with my carbs if I keep the boot, kinda like an exhaust that's dual with an h pipe it equalizes pressure.

Does brand matter when getting pod filters? All I can find on eBay and a few other sites are no name ones or pod filters made of foam. Also please correct me if I'm wrong but I need 34mm pods to fit my carbs right?

Xschris I forgot to mention whatever I take off will be put aside for when I sell the bike I figured it would have a a higher value with all original parts

what about a k&n filter set? Its usually the first thing i do to my cars, i replace the stock paper filter with a high flow reusable air filter.

thanks for all the help but i have decided to just go pod filters and leave the stock exhaust at least for now, i may do a mac 2 into 1 header with no muffler at some point but i have a limited budget, so it will be a while.

I took my xs400 for a spin it was freezing with the wind but soooo worth it cant wait for warmer weather. I'm in northern ny by the Vermont/Canadian/New York border so the weather is always crappy, plus we have like a 4-5 month ride season and I need all the time I can get. :thumbsup:
