    Rookie Mistake! OVERHEATED ENGINE!

I doubt it, number of things could be stopping it from turning over. Try and see if you can turn it over in second gear by pushing it. If no then it might be seized and you'll have follow some anti seize methods out there. Another option is your battery is pooched from draining too much. I...

    Rookie Mistake! OVERHEATED ENGINE!

What's the oil like? Hopefully it's not cooked. I did that to a compressor once and had to chip out all the caked on crap. Can you crank her over with the kickstart?

    Rookie Mistake! OVERHEATED ENGINE!

Start her up and ride her. Yolo. My 2 cents.

    starter problems

Judging from your other post about issues kick starting, maybe you should do a compression test.

What did you do with your XS today?

If you read the wiki on fascism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism It reads like a check list to describe the board that runs my condo.

What did you do with your XS today?

Just got told by the fascists that manage my condo building that I can't park both my car and my bike in one parking spot, despite the fact both vehicles sit comfortably in the spot.

The XS400J-K experiment ends on a sad note.

It's like excersize equipment. You'll see tons of at home "total" gyms and crap on craigslist and kijiji, but hardly anyone is selling squat racks/barbells/plates. The reason is that the people who have a good squat rack and set aren't willing to part with them. While the scam at home gym...

The XS400J-K experiment ends on a sad note.

Man, you put that much milage on your bike and then say it's unreliable? And according to your sig you found it rotting in the rain for 13+ years.... I don't know about you, but that sounds about as bulletproof as you can get, jesus. I'm shocked the thing even turns over let alone is able to...

The XS400J-K experiment ends on a sad note.

A design flaw is a parameter though. You have control over everything, it's just a collection of clockwork and lights. You can account for everything, saying something is "just a design flaw" and then walking away is a defeating attitude. You will encounter design flaws everywhere, you just...

The XS400J-K experiment ends on a sad note.

I never said that all bikes were created equal. You misunderstood. It's very common because people don't like owning up to the truth about machinery. Reliable, unreliable, they're just words. Either you fix and maintain your bike, or you don't. There is no point in pining after nighthawks...

The XS400J-K experiment ends on a sad note.

Bikes are like women, the younger ones run better and do what they're told. If you bought anything more than 10 years old and expect it to be very reliable then you're delusional, I'm sorry. If your yammy isn't working properly then the problem is with her mechanic. A 30 year bike requires...

The XS400J-K experiment ends on a sad note.

A machine is a machine. It's only as good as the person turning the wrench behind it. My XS has it's problems, but on the whole I think they're solid bikes. With the right love and care they'll take you where you need to go.

Newbie! With some questions of course.

Man... What in the sam hell is that thing? Is that an alternator or something? If I was a betting man (and I really ain't) then I'd wager that's an alternator with a waste spark system.

    Headlight drawing too much current?

Yesterday I rode for about 3 hours and she rode like a dream. Only problem was the headlight didn't work. Then today I go to start her up and I fiddle with one of the fuses and voila, headlamp works again. But then the bike ran like absolute crap, pretty much on one cylinder. I think what...

    Oil leak

I got it from part source, but that's because my friend works there and i got a discount. Most part guys should know what it is, it's pretty magical stuff. Just call around to your local part store, they should be able to order it if they don't have it.
