    Modifying stock air filters

XSChris illustrates why measuring like you're measuring is more realiable. When you measure the actual float height, bowl off, carb upside down, depending on your model, the numbers can be different and confusing. No matter what the carb, if you measure the fuel level with the carb installed...

Where can I get a decent cheap ohm meter.

Harbor Freight will often have their midline multimeter on sale for ~$15. Had mine for a few years...still works fine.

Help! Need some advise on welding

Find a local metal supply place and buy mild steel tubing. A 6' section should cost you no more than $20.

Yeah, if you're experiencing problems like that, your plugs will not look "fine".

    Looking for Extended Fork Tubes

Have you looked into moto/dirt bike fork tubes?

    Convert front wheel to rear

FYI, CBR929RR triples will accept those tubes and are the right size for the neck tube of the XS400 frame. I have a set but haven't mocked them up, so I can't verify 100% on that, but they do use the same bearings.

    Convert front wheel to rear

Why don't you buy a stock 18" rear disc mag and use the stock rear disc parts??? But yeah, if you have access to a machine shop that could make you a 4 hole (drive sprocket has 4 holes) to 6 hole spacer, sure.

    Convert front wheel to rear

Yeah..how do you propose fitting a drive sprocket to it? Drum brake is def different too. If you have a disc brake, I doubt it lines up with the rear caliper.

Best octane to use in xs400

It reminds be back in the late 90s when I had a Passat turbo. Everyone was freaking out cause the manual recommended 95 octane and no one could find it and was asking if they needed to add octane booster. They finally realized that the octane rec was RON and the 91 octane here in the states...

    Wheel compatibility

Not 100% on those Seca wheels, but I do know the 18" disc mags from the 77/78 XS400 will fit. But you'll have to do a drum to disc conversion.

    '81 xs400 carb question

Not on the newer emission controlled bikes. I want to say starting in 1980, the carbs had those plugs. You can remove them, however.

How to build a cafe racer

Some of those tips can be used for other types of builds as well. It annoys the crap outta me when someone's sissy bar isn't the same angle as the forks.
