Love the 244s on this bike. I am curious though, have you experienced any rubbing from the chain or losing knobs with the 4.60 on the back? I've read that going over 4.50 can create some issues like that on SOHCs.
@sandmanred thank you for the baffle idea and design considerations, that makes a ton of sense. Those baffles could be almost like the snuffler nuts on the old CL77s.
Hi everyone, it's been quite a while!
Ever since the newest Triumph scrambler came out, I have been pining after a pair of high pipes. Couple that with my friend purchasing a cabin in Northern Wisconsin (offroading trails like you wouldn't believe), and you have the recipe for entering into a...
All points I should have addressed in my first post, thanks for reminding me Spectra.
Carbs have been cleaned multiple times with barrymans dip, a high e guitar string, and regular spray cleaner. Floats have been set to 32mm. Timing has been set according to a wonderful video I found on...
Hello again!

I sure hope it’s the former. I’ve never had to do lapping...
Also, could backfiring cause it? I know in the past before I had the jets sorted out the right would backfire quite a bit on deceleration. The left cylinder has only a slight discoloration, so that leads me to believe it’s something...
Hello!
This is my second post ever and second for the evening. I'm really hitting the site hard on my first day!
I have a '78 XS400E, the one with the disk brakes front and rear.
I just had the frame powder coated, and I noticed something odd when disassembling the bike.
Looking down the...
Hello!
Long time lurker, first time poster. Any help would be appreciated, I know that this community is something special.
So I have a '78 XS400 E and I recently had my frame powder coated. The right foot peg mounts on the frame got enough powder in them that threading the bolts will be...
