They are stiff shocks but laying them down as much as I have really softened the ride. I tried to match the graphic on the side of the tank to a sporty tank and its helped to make it appear smaller. Lets see yours!

I cut the arms right in front of the flat stock that holds the rear axle. The tubing is pretty straight right there. Just welded in about a 5 inch innner tube notched to fit inside and added the 2 inch extension piece the same size as the swingarm tubing. I drilled holes in the outer tubing...

I know it was discussed, but just to clarify, I have a 76' rd400. The rd tank will not fit on my xs400 frame. The only tanks I've found to fit over and cover those 3rd bars are the original xs tanks. Thank you Yamaha. I wonder if a guy could make some money building custom tanks for our...

Yeah, I love the looks of a 21 front. I've got the same problem with costs! My new tires just came in today, so I'll run those for a while.

Those are stock Honda Rebel shocks. 10.5" center to center.

The rebel shocks I got off ebay worked great for me. I switched the bottom rubber bushings from the old xs shocks to the bottom of the new rebels. I reused the steel sleeve I took out of the bottom of the rebel shocks for the top mount.

I got some work done on the xs this last week. Stripped it all down. I bet I took off 100 lbs. After hours of pouring over pictures trying to get a feel for the look I wanted I decided to go brat stye. I lifted the forks 2" in the trees to get an idea of what it looks like...
