I am interested in buying the head.... How are the intake and exhaust valves looking? Pics? I have an 82 Maxim and I think it uses the same valve (correct me if I'm wrong)
Man! I have the exact bike and I'm glad I found this thread... I want similar to this but I thought it couldn't be done with these bikes. Thanks for all ideas.
Man! I might have to hold up on this project, I just found a huge hole on the lower crank case. On the corner of where the oil filter goes... :( sad day
can anybody point me to a step by step procedure (with photos preferrably) on how to set the timing on this motorcycle? Any help, tricks and advice will be greatly appreciated. Also, looking for a head gasket that's not going to break the bank. Found a couple on Craigslist but they run around...
Ok that sounds like a plan.... I am looking at hopefully building the engine back together this weekend and put it on the bike to see if she at least a little life left on her. I will let you know if I need some parts.
Oh dude! Thanks for that info!!! You just made my life 100 times easier.... Now it makes sense!!! Like what I said, the bike was stripped down by bunch of kids and everything is all over the place.
Thanks BD!!! I have looked around for the xs400j manual but I could not find any.... I guess I'm gonna have to dig deeper. I'm sure it will be there somewhere. I'll keep posting for any updates and progress I make for everyone.
Any updates on the XS400J? I just bought one for 50 bucks but it was practiced on by a bunch of highschoolers... Mine came with a set of torn apart engine and one that was almost torn apart. Would like to see what you came up with yours and pick your brain on how you turned yours into a cafe...
