I would really like the clean up the handlebar area and have it as minmal as possible, but at the same time here in the UK we have to have lights, turn signals, mirror, horn etc, etc.

Any ideas, thoughts, examples of good ways to do this much appreciated. I've looked at small micro-switch units some shops sell, but I wonder how robust they are. I've got hands like shovels and with gloves on...I would press all the switches at once and break them and it rains here... a lot...

I've kinda been thinking of using an early honda switch unit that have the nice rounded shape and can be polished or sprayed as they are metal.

Something like this...

What do you think?

I saw somebody's bobber with a toggle switch under the seat/tank area to work the lights..hi/low beam...could do something similar with the directionals etc,,.

I bought these the other day.
One is on-off (light), one is on-off-on(indicators) and the last is for the horn. Cost me around 10$. Im placing them on a panel, not sure exactly where to put the panel though.

But that honda unit looked good, a little work and it will turn out clean!

And i'm with you amr, don't like the plastic look.

cad, you don't need indicators or lights in the uk for our aged bikes.

its called a daytime mot, but the regs just say that any lights fitted must work etc etc

you can also get away with non standard exhausts as long as its not too loud.

Riding around London with no lights or indicators...I would last about 10 min before some dickhead knocked me off, lol.

Drewps, I'm gonna try and use this bike as my daily transport and use it all year round so I'm going to need lights and indicators (if only to keep me alive...).

ps Check your email

got the email thanks :D

I did toy with the idea of putting MOM push switches in the ends of the bars (like bar weights but switches) I think it would be better with 1" bars though as 7/8" are very difficult to thread wires down.

If you use a VW relay for one, that will be high beam with lights off and dip/high when switched on via toggle switch somewhere else!

should get away with direct horn t'other side.

as far as indicators those need to be on the bars somewhere, maybe with a 12v timer switch so you don't have to cancel it, only turn it on

try here

thats what im doing for my bobber. i just gotta figure out where to hide them. i want separate switches for the head light(one three way: off, low and hi beams) and one for the taillight (two way on and off.)

i want it really hidden like on by frame under the tank. towards the neck. or haybe my seat? im unsure.

With the rules governing the equipment on a bike in the UK and the traffic laws we have to drive to I think it would be almost impossible to locate the switches anywhere but on the handlebars (or very close by).

It would be great to located all that stuff under the seat and clean up the handlebars but driving in London and the number of times you have to indicate or dip your headlights (and press the horn and give somebody the finger) makes this practically impossible I think.

Unfortunately I think I will have to put up with some kind on handlebar switches and its a matter of finding the least obstusive ones I can.

Hmm, I double checked it by going into the post after, and it worked ok. Try copying and pasting the basic website address into your address bar.

And, I just tried it from YOUR post and it worked, try kicking your PC :)
