Great ideas guys, thanks so much. I couldn't quite get my strap wrench to fit in there, it's just barely too big. I'll give the channel locks a shot sometime this weekend. I had a look over at mikesxs.com, and at $3.50, the tool might be a good investment. :)

My understanding is that 5/8" and 13/16" are far and away the most common spark plug socket sizes. The only other size you'll see with any regularity is 18mm, which is found almost exclusively on, you guessed it, Japanese motorcycles! The plugs on my 82 XS400 Maxim take an 18mm socket. If...
