    '82 XS400J cracked lower fork

Thanks man, that looks great and is really affordable. Looking at these and at the microphiche, I notice mine is a bit different. The lower tube on the right of mine does not have an axle clamp. Am I identifying the model correctly? Here is a pic of the offending fork tube Here is my neck...

    '82 XS400J cracked lower fork

1982 right lower fork tube cracked up at the top and oil spooged out. This spot had been poorly repaired with a braze and some epoxy before I purchased it. Now with new seals it's leaking bad. I know that all of the following use the same fork lower (the aluminum half): 1982 xs400j 1982...

    82 Maxum Ignition Issues

I have had an ignition coil arc to the frame on an old Honda. A good way to find trouble is go to the shop after sunset, cut all the lights off and fire the bike up. You should see a light show. I also know of a problem with my Roadstar's coils doing the same thing, the fix that I have read of...

Butterfly Valves closing slower after carb did

What are you riding thay has a throttle valve rather than a slide? You may need to wash again, be sure after dipping to spray with carb cleaner and then air. To lube it all up I like seafoam's Deepcreep. It has a lubricant in it as well as a cleaner. Make sure to give the return springs the...

    '82 xs400j front caliper question

I need to replace the piston seals in the caliper. The only OEM I can find is a piston & seal kit for $50 +s/h. Some shop in th UK has just the seals for 7 pounds. I'm in the states and with s/h it's $35. The seals look alot like the '82 XJ1100J, anyone know if these work. Or maybe where to get...

    Valve Adjustment

I've been wrenching old Hondas for sometime with fair success. I am now building this 1982 XS400 DOHC and am forced to learn something new. I have only dealt with adjustable tappet screws and now I'm looking at shims. The manual seems pretty straight forward, nothing tough; I just get to make a...
