    Hello from "up north"

Nice find! I had looked at using something like his: ebay link but in the end thought the replaceable filter would be nice, and smaller (less weight added) although I'm still thinking of adapting one to use as a front MC

    Hello from "up north"

Well, yesterday I did this: and took her for a ride...it all held together well :) Unfortunately, the 750xs tank has petcocks with vac lines that point forward - and though they seemed fine, I apparently forgot to take into account the little extra push forward they get when I'm riding and...

Did a 450 mile round trip to the Cape for the annual blessing of the bikes on Sunday...shoulder's sore, but the ride was great. :bike:

    Hello from "up north"

So, this weekend I got a new set of carbs - gotta love my local, same model same year even and they had "cleaned '07" sharpie'd on them! I still tore them apart and cleaned 'em...there was carbon build up around the edges of the butterfly valves (not on the valves themselves, but on the walls...

    Hello from "up north"

SO, ch-ch-ch-changes... First, had to move the starter button t the other side. TO get an idea why, try starting your bike cold, and having to give it a bit of throttle - while your right hand is grabbing the frame behind your butt! (so now try it with the left hand grabbing the frame...much...

What did you do with your XS today?

Built a DIY manometer and tried to sync the carbs mo bettah than I did "by ear" noticed one side was making little to no difference. Decided it was time to pull the carbs again and see what he damage was. Noticed the needles are different sizes. One's shorter than the other and tapered weird -...

    Hello from "up north"

Thanks FWIW, the button mount is actually one of the hydraulic hose mounts from the front that I had left over when I moved everything around for the new handlebars. As for the Enfield, there's a shop up here that carries them, they usually have about a half-dozen on the floor whenever I go...

    Hello from "up north"

So, today was a success  This weekend we cleaned and resynchronized the carbs, she's a rocket again :D Then I did some "creative electrical work" - in the interest of cleaning up the new bars (which are really small - hard to fit everything) I removed the engine kill switch and...

What did you do with your XS today?

Cleaned the carbs this weekend and resynchronized them. WOW...like a new bike! While I had her "apart" I decided to get into some rewiring. Removed the dummy lines from the headlight relay (since it didn't come with the bike...sigh...) and removed the dummy line to the kill...

wire harness rebuild--newbie intro-- and a question

I'm necro-ing this thread because no one ever really gave a definitive answer. I removed mine (XS400F) and she still runs fine (also removed the yellow line and the ground from the headlamp relay to the generator)

How to renovate a US light to use an auto bulb

I was a bit worried about that...which is why I marked the ring and housing all along the way. In the end, the project was as much "Can we do it" as anything else. This was the first modification I did to he bike and I've found some really cheap part sources since then, so I might not do it the...

    Hi from MO

Digging the look of that flew pipe...talked with my buddy about it and we started coming up with all kinds of crazy ways you could run it (cris-crossing through the frame and braiding were popular) unfortunately, it WAY more expensive up here for some reason...like $12 for an 18" 'patch kit' and...
