i am having a similar issue. i think i have traced the problem to an old dried out vacuum hose from the carbs to the petcock. It wasn't sealing air tight at the connections so the air pressure was not right and everything was messed up.

You might be right i was thinking the same thing that these mufflers should make it lean. I may need to check the floats or the valves.

Its hit and miss as far as side mount license plates. Here in WA State the Wa State Patrol does not like them. Everyone i know that has mounted them has been pulled over for them. The Motor Vehicle Code is pretty specific here that the plate has to be mounted on the rear of the bike. In fact...

So i was thinking about putting that high mounted exhaust style on my '78 "cranky" project, but even with exhaust wrap i know those pipes get hot (i have the burn scares to prove it!) Do any of you that have positioned the exhaust like that, ever have heat issues? (maybe i should re-word...
