    Petcock leaking...cold weather the culprit?

i am having a similar issue. i think i have traced the problem to an old dried out vacuum hose from the carbs to the petcock. It wasn't sealing air tight at the connections so the air pressure was not right and everything was messed up.

    XS400 top speed??

The fastest i can get "cranky" to is about 85mph in full tuck and Wide Open Throttle (and even at that you could time how long it took to get there with a calendar). I have stock sprockets and dual exhaust. I am fat and old so i think going faster on this bike will require my fat butt loosing...

Im guessing one shouldnt be cheap when buying a helmet?

This is the best article I have ever read on the subject of helmets. (It got the assistant editor of motorcyclist magazine fired because it angered helmet manufacturers and hurt their bottom line advertising revenue) it was originally published in the new york times i believe Blowing the...

    Rejetting with Emgo mufflers

You might be right i was thinking the same thing that these mufflers should make it lean. I may need to check the floats or the valves.

    First bobber build!!!!

Its hit and miss as far as side mount license plates. Here in WA State the Wa State Patrol does not like them. Everyone i know that has mounted them has been pulled over for them. The Motor Vehicle Code is pretty specific here that the plate has to be mounted on the rear of the bike. In fact...

how did you mount bar end mirror on the throttle side?

I sawed off the end cap off the throttle tube and then loosened the throttle mechanism on the bar so i could move it 1/4 inch this way or that, to be flush with the end of the bar and tightened it down.

    Rejetting with Emgo mufflers

Hi friends, the rainy season is getting close to an end here in the Pac Northwest, so i'm getting to all the jobs that i didn't do last year because i was riding :-) So anyway I put on some little emgo mufflers that are practically straight pipes (very low restriction) . I assumed i was...

what temperature do our exhaust pipes get up to

Hot enough to do this :yikes: ( that was from about a nano-second brush up against the pipe while checking the air pressure in my tire)

    some modded xs400's

So i was thinking about putting that high mounted exhaust style on my '78 "cranky" project, but even with exhaust wrap i know those pipes get hot (i have the burn scares to prove it!) Do any of you that have positioned the exhaust like that, ever have heat issues? (maybe i should re-word...
