1980 xs400sg clutch has "ratchety" feel as i pull it.

This is my first motorcycle and i have completely gone through everything.I cleaned and lubed the cable and greased the worm gear good, but my push rod has a little ridge on it which i sanded down a little bit. the cable moves easily enough but has a ratchety feel as i pull it and i remember the guy at Polaris telling me something about this but i can't remember what it means any tips?

get a new pushrod, not expensive and it won't destroy your pushrod seal and leak oil out every where
