Gooday,
Started tearing into the carbs off a 1980 Yamaha xs400g, your typical barn bike find and realized the right side carb body was actually cracked. That's left me with now trying to hunt down a replacement, or another set. I was wondering if someone could help to clarify what model of mikuni carb I have. I was also hoping to determine if I'd be able to use a different type of carb off an older or possibly newer xs400 model? The carbs I've come across on eBay or else where seem to have different float bowls then mine in the picture below, is this merely a cosmetic feature or do these different bowls provide something? Any help, tips, refurals would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Those look to be off a 81 xs400. Any 80-82 sohc xs400 carb will match up with it. The 80 carbs had a different bowl on them which had a brass bolt for a drain. Yours has the screw used in the 81-82. You can use both bowls on these type carbs. The 77-79 carbs are not the same. The bodies and slides are different.
