1981 Maxim 550. Looking for input

Hey guys and gals. Someone is offering me a maxim 550 for trade on my suzuki vx800. I haven't ridden my suzuki since I got and have it in craigs list for sale or trade.
My question here is do any of you know how good the maxims are? Are they similar to our xs400's or a different beast entirely. I love my xs to death and the thought of having a slightly larger cc yamaha from the same time period greatly intrigues me. Any and all input as always is greatly appreciated.

You're looking at two DOHCs put together, and a little smaller. Dual shocks on the back, and you'll have to get used to a new board covering XJs.

Well if it goes through and I get it..... it just means I can give the xs a complete disassemble and clean. The one she truly deserves. From what I understand, for only being 550's they have really good power.
