Where would the stamp code be on the valve cover component? I'm guessing these numbers are for boring of cam lobes. That said, I would think the odds of finding a cylinder head to match a valve cover would be difficult. Bottom line I need a matched set to replace the one the machine shop...

So if the cylinder head is the same, my 81's valve cover should fit and therefore meet any upper motor mount concerns. This brings up a question. Are the heads and valve cover (rocker arm assembly) machined as one unit. Can I mix (without machining) or plug and play a cylinder head and valve...

does anybody know for sure if the heads of a 79 will work with a 1981 motor? If so which parts from which bike engine must I retain? thanks be well gil :confused:

Hello everybody.... I figured out how to get better performance from a XS400. Get a XS650..... smile. Love the 400, but because it won't do 100 (easily, reliably, comfortably) without investing too much and/or overstressing the engine I'm now in the market for a 73 to 77 xs650. Although...

Sorry for double posting, can somebody delete one? By the way XSChris, check out the 1982 dyno sheet I posted from Cycle Magazine (PDF) earlier. It shows the 400 @ 29 HP on their Dyno, which maybe the just use provided numbers. Again all fine and dandy, but where did the 11 hp go from...

Has anybody ever dyno'd one of these bikes? Still curious about the HP rating as I find three different ratings each for three different years. I definitely don't like the sound of 27 HP, good this I have a Modified V-Max for my speed needs. :shrug:
