First time going from Vancouver to Banff. Suggestions??

What about the change in altitude from Sea level to 1,480 m and the pass's in between? Do I need to know how to tinker with my carb for these changes in air pressure?

First time going from Vancouver to Banff. Suggestions??

Great start! Anything specific in the tool kit I should be bringing? I could always just grab my OEM DRZ tool kit, and add a few more items to it. I have a BCAA membership so Im not toooo worried about the need to fix flats on the road. Anything else?

First time going from Vancouver to Banff. Suggestions??

Hey everyone! So, after a summers worth of tinkering on my bike, I finally got it running to a point that Im ready to take'r on a road trip. Never too late! So my plan is to leave Vancouver early afternoon Friday, make it to revelstoke on my first day, then Banff early Saturday morning...

Im out of ideas. This is a LONG post, but Im desperate.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replies, here's an update. So, I cleaned the carbs out again. Again no signs of dirt, but as you guys have said, there doesn't need to be visible dirt for it to cause issues. This time, I left them in the oxidization tank for 45 minutes. Blasted everything with...

Im out of ideas. This is a LONG post, but Im desperate.

Hey Arfstrom, thanks for reading the whole thing. I knew I was forgetting to mention something. Valves. I triple checked the valves, and had a mechanic check them after I was done. Dialed them in. I don't have a fuel filter, but I'm putting that on the shopping list. Thanks. Im pretty sure I...

Im out of ideas. This is a LONG post, but Im desperate.

My bike will not run consistently. I get it running a few days, then the idle degrades until it wont run long enough to make it more than a block or two of riding. I'm out of ideas, and the only thing I can find wrong with my bike, is the left exhaust pipe. The bike always seemed weak on the...

    Question about exhaust

This sounds like the EXACT problem Im facing now. Down to the clean as hell carbs and still idle issues. My exhaust has a hole, and is rattling like mad. After reading a few other posts on here, I've come up with a couple options I want to run by the pros on the Forum before I pull the...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Okay, Im going to try to eliminate some possibilities. So, I had the carb running well, for the most part the other day. But it was still weak on that Left Cylinder. The idle was alright, it went up when I accelerated, and came back down when I stopped. Makes sense. But it still ran kind...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Hey guys, Now that I've officially taken over this thread, I'll give an update. Spent the day in the shop. Installed new AIR jets. Seperate from the main jet, these went in a little hole right on the side of the rim on the air intake for the carb. I cleaned the carbs, and checked the...

    Runs on only one cylinder

I have not checked the compression yet. I'll check that on Saturday, if the shops got room for me. You think the weak cylinder and backfires/gurgling on shut off are a sign of "bad" compression? I don't have my Haynes manual with me, but Im assuming it goes over how to actually do this...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Hey everyone, back again. So, I spent an entire day taking apart the carbs cleaning them in an oxidizing tank blowing all the holes out with a 125lb compressed air gun and putting them all back together. Checked the floats, which seemed strange. The manual, and Yamaha website both show ROUND...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the help. I would reccomend you get a JIS philips screwdriver or you will ruin quite a few of the screws. Great tip, thanks it's on my shopping list. I have the Haynes manual, and I came across a post that has the factory, and shop manuals. The problem I...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Hey everyone. This thread has been great in helping me come up with a plan, as this sounds very very similar to whats happening with my bike right now. So I thought I'd tack on another question. I noticed its been running on one cylinder but, runs. So thats something. I havent actually done...

New problem out of the blue..won't start?

.... The kill switch was set to off. Wow. I feel like a bonehead. I never actually use the kill switch, which is probably why I over looked it. I found a cigarette butt and an empty beer bottle beside it this morning though, I wonder if some drunk was fiddling around with it last...

New problem out of the blue..won't start?

Hey everyone, I recently bought an 81 xs400 that a guy had turned into a cafe racer. It's been running mostly fine, Im in the middle of trouble shooting a problem right now that involves the bike only running on one cylinder. But, its been running. No problem. Takes a little warming up, sure...
