I tried taking the coil and running the coil wires straight to the ignition box to the same color code on the ignition box and still did not want to fire. When the coil is hooked up and the bike is turned on and not running just the one coil that does not fire gets really hot.
I did take the wires off the coil that worked and put it on the new coil to see if it would work. If i take the wires that are running to the coil the (red/white and grey wire )it will spark the one that does not work but the coil that does not work when i hook it up to the orange and red/white...
So if i hook the ignition box back up and disconect the pick up coil and it does not spark then what do you think it could be. Do you think it is either the pickup coil or the ignition box?
What is crazy is the left cylinder doesn't spark but when I turn the key on and switch the engine kill switch on and off it makes the spark plug spark? Any ideas
if i swap the conection from the left to the right it fires but it will not fire on the left side. Even with a new coil. I even swaped the spark plug wires and got new spark plugs but still nothing.
When i turn the key on and off it does make the spark plug that does not work any other time spark. So when i turn the key on and kick start it, the left plug does not spark. but when i turn the key on and off that spark plug sparks?
I swoped The spark plug wires and put new plugs in. I swoped the plug wires because i knew the right cylinder plug and wires where firing so i thought if that worked and swoped them that it might rule out some other stuff. But you think it could still be the wire?
If the Pickup was bad would that cause just one cylinder not to fire? It was running fine why i was riding it and it just lost power and wanted to die when i wasnt reving it. but found out that it wasnt firing on the left cylinder. it was just random.
it is a 1980 Yamaha xs400G, I took the new coil and ran it straight to the ignition box to see if i posibly had a short or anything but i still have nothing. I swoped spark plug wires to see if that could be the problem but still nothing.I also Replaced both spark plugs. I just dont want to...
