    ok so i just went over it again and found the problem...is was a vacuum leak and i cant believe i didnt notice it before...one of the rubber 'nubs' was missing on the left carb and hence the burst of air and the back firing...put one on and its running waaayyy better...thanks for all your help...

    okay so i adjusted my idle screw and got it starting and running relatively smooth at about 1500-2000 rpms...but what is happening is the left pipe is giving me small backfires and im hearing a small air burst from around the carb..which im guessing is as suggested...a vacuum issue....the boots...
