    Runs on only one cylinder

Soe hints from the web...and a littel editing: There are some general guidelines to follow when running a compression test on a four-stroke gasoline engine. Rotary, two stroke, diesel, and other types of engines require a different procedure. It's always a good bet to follow testing steps...

    No spark......1982 Yamaha Maxium 400

Hi The serial number is on the engine and on frame/sticker; the two should match unless the engine has been changed out. It is not the typical VIN...less digits (9) as you point out. What was the website for the new ignitor? Not sure if the later SOHC bikes the same ignitor or not...

    No spark......1982 Yamaha Maxium 400

Sounds like the ignitor to me. I have had two fail; That being said I replaced with spares I had but did not try to clean the contacts up first. Spares worked well. So question is: has anyone found a replacement for the oem DOHC ignitor? Ebay shopping for these used ones is getting...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Most likely you will need to pull carbs. They are pretty simple Here are the steps: 1) Get a manual: you can find one oneline; there are also some really good drawings on this forum 2) Read a bunch of the posts on this forum; there are some real experts here on these carbs 3) Pull the...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Thanks again to everyone for the help. Tried a bunch of things and then pulled the cards again. Turns out the mechnainc (was that me?) did not tighten the main jet on the left carb. It was loose and rolling around in the float bowl. Buttoned it all back up. Runs great and my son took off to...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Put carbs back together on Friday a night and today got them out to the shop. Really worked on the enrichener circuit and was all clear except for one float bowl. Today applied heat to the float bowl with propane torch. This seemed to do the trick as I was then able to spray carb cleaner...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Hi, My name is Jeff, and I am addicted to carburetors, and I am willing to go through the twelve step process (sorry that’s my other group). Yes, I had mine apart last night and boiled the bodies in vinegar and was (that smells awful) threatened with same treatment from “she who cannot...

    Runs on only one cylinder

Hi NFriday, The folks here have been a big help in sorting out my problem. Similar to mine, it cannot draw fuel to start, so it has to be a vacuum leak issue, or a cleanliness issue. Related to the cleanliness issue is float height. First of all clean: You wil have to pull the carbs...
