So i went with the MAC 2:1. installed easily/quickly with no mods and no clearance issues. overall I'm a fan but it's a bit loud for me... Might anyone who has installed these headers/muffler have good advice on a direction to go for added baffles/sound-deadening?

Read up a lot onto he Mac 2:1. definitely an option. going to look at some OEM systems, but not holding my breath for condition. anyone know how the MAC 2-2 ( i.e 004-0233 ) might work with our bikes? (and would the extra muffler warrant the extra cost?)

OEM muffler beat up 1981 xs400S original exhaust. kickstand has been hitting it hard ( rubber bumper not withstanding) and created a crack that coincides with the crossover... after 35 years the abuse took hold and my 'left/drivers side' muffler has essentially detached at the crossover...

So... the bike's "marking territory" has been getting worse.. last fall i *thought* it was the o-ring on my neutral indicator switch over the winter she lost 100% of her oil. and has been leaving puddles rather than drips of late... today I took the left cover off, degreased, hosed...
