This thread is usless with out pictures but im planing on some more work over the next few weeks and will post shortly. As always life got in the way, few kids, car projet, shed build blah blah blah but im back. Bike is now my prority and will be giving her some well deserved love.

The rear tyre is a standard and I fitted it to meet the licence regs, it looks big as I have removed the struts and replaced them with solid bar :thumbsup: hardtail FTW

Bang on there :thumbsup: yes a broom stick just for mock up. Haaaaa and no dingo's ate my baby but I did have a slight fall from my kangaroo when I was droping one of my kids off at school.

OK so I went for the second inspection, guy passed it straight away. Off to get the rego, am now told at this point I need proof of purchase from previous owner. Faaaaaaaaark me! emails, faxes and phone calls latter all sorted. So she now has a spanky new plate and I can legally take her...

Cheers, Think I will put the ball bearings back in just for the license inspection and replace with roller type when I rebulid after the strip down for paint.

Pulled the front end apart and the bearings went every where, found them all but one. Was a new one for me as I have only ever replaced caged roller bearings. soooooooooooooooooooooooo How close should the bearings be when sitting in the race? to me there is a lot of play.

Cheers Drewpy....... Well the bike failed inspection today for steering head bearings and an incorrectly adjusted chain and rear drum brake (tho they appear fine to me) No biggie it could have been pinged for a whole lot more I suppose. Now to order the bearings, then adjust up the...

any one know the Part # for 1981 XS400 steering head bearings?
