Yeah the original handlebar button shorted out and I just removed the starter/chain and bought a NOS non electric start handlebar control. Thanks... I really hope I can get get the bike running before the summer! Just need to find time and keep asking questions as everyone has truly been helpful...
cool...i wont need that either (the m-unit and signals already do work properly), I was more concerned about the other, larger item! Thanks for all of your help and buttoning up the engine/crank with the bolt from you will let me focus on the wiring! Thanks yet again!
And...just to check, these (or new components in their place) are not needed, right? Seriously I cant remember from 2 years ago everything I did and I also lost the flywheel bolt and have to deal with a dead battery and leaking rear master cylinder.
Apparently I lost the flywheel bolt and woodruff key (INSERT EXPLETIVE HERE). I cant seem to find them on the bikebandit diagrams. any help wpuld be appreciated.
Here is a pic of the wiring in question. Apologies again for being so unknowledgeable on this. It seems if I can figure out how to connect the 4 wires from the coils to the other two "harnesses" in the pic (the two wires coming from the points and the other white molex type connector)... then I...
Kind of everything :-) I am finishing up stuff on my car over the next week or two so the bike can have open space in the garage. When I look at SolidSenpai's diagram at the top of this thread, I'm not 100% on where/how the "Stator and R/R" will connect to the main m-unit power wire and how the...
I was thrown off as I don't have the bolt that locks it down to the crank in front of me... it's up in one of the boxes I need to take down with bolts from the disassembly that I didn't want to lose. Thank you very much for your help and the pics! Now I just have to find that bolt... then I can...
Reviving a 1.5 year old thread as I finally try to finish rewiring my bike (after multiple grounding issues and a fried starter). .. When xschris says keep the rotor, I'm not sure how to secure it in there now that the clutch is removed. Seems like it will just float around..pictures below. What...
It's a 77 400D.I'm all good with the lights and everything that's straightforward...and I even removed the electric start along with the clutch and chain on starter motor to go kickstart only. It's just with the coils (disconnected from the original harness) and the other ignition related wiring...
I would be curious as to how this turned out as I bought an M unit almost two years ago and moving twice and family obligations I never got around to finishing my bike. It's sitting in the garage with all of the lights and controls working but I never got the ignition hooked up properly and...
I have my pretty much complete 77 XS400 that I need to sell or part out as its taking up room in the garage and I simply will never get to working on it. I have the title from the previous owner that was signed over to me as I never registered it in my name.
It was running in early 2016 and was...
So...after 2 moves in the last 2 years and ever increasing family and financial strain, I realize I am probably never getting to rebuild the XS.
The bike ran in 2016 and was good cosmetically (relatively fresh seat and painted tins/seat, electric starter) then I started tinkering, got rid of...
I guess I had a moment.... The starter clutch seems to move Jo matter if the bike is on the ground or in gear :(
I think I'll just reinstall the cover and leave it on the bike... Too much effort to remove the unused piece.
