    79 xs400 seat lock mechanism

hey all, could someone post a photo of the sliding mechanism from the 79 style seat release? mine fell out of the assembly and got lost at some point, and while I do remember the general shape, looking at oem will take some guesswork out. i’ll be cutting a new piece out of some scrap that is...

    MmmBoost's '78 XS400 Cafe Project

Starting cleaning up the wiring and fixing some of the butchered harness from the previous owner. Ditching all the starter circuit since the bike will be kick-only. Also getting rid of the signal canceller. Interested in what your process was for ditching the starter circuit -- had a bunch of...

    Can anyone identify these wires?

So i brought the bike inside and completely opened up the witing harness, attempting to get it back to stock. 2 of the fuses had changed paths, and were bumping into a brown wire with a lot of connection points (also headed to regulator, brake switches, etc) and one of the R/Ws headed towards...

    Can anyone identify these wires?

The regulator is still attached to the harness as it should be. As I can currently see, only the plugs to the alternator and field coil have been snipped and adjusted. So I tested the original rectifier for continuity while it was not attached to the harness, and saw no signal from red to...

    Can anyone identify these wires?

Alright, thanks for this. Next I'll get off the case to the alternator and start the rewire back to the old way. Definitely plan on returning to stock fuse load, as I'm sure this has contributed to all of my electrical problems (intermittent flasher fail, failure to start, headlight dying...

    Can anyone identify these wires?

So is that down in the alternator /with the stator coil? I've also discovered that - the replacement rectifier is wired directly to the battery terminals - the buss fuses are (3) 30a's and (1) 14a, instead of 10a's and a 20a.

    Can anyone identify these wires?

so from what I can tell, one of these is the second in on the left of the included section of the wiring diagram. two wires go to the neutral and oil switch, but what is the other unlabeled picture that green and black go to? anyone?

    Can anyone identify these wires?

1979XS400F pulled the battery box to look for loose cables/ grounds, as my battery is frequently dying after short trips. Once on the trickle charger, battery comes back to full very quickly. Up in front of the battery box are these two 4 pin connectors with snipped wires. The first has...

    Headlight failure

Alright, so I have light when I wire the headlight directly to the battery. Also, If I jump two ports on the relay together, (I wanna say Yellow to Red/Yellow?) I get the headlight to illuminate. This lead me to believe the relay was shot, replaced it but still no dice. Any leads here?

    vacuum actuated petcock

I put it back together the way it came, and it first seemed to be fine, but then after a few turns started leaking again. This to me means that I need to rebuild with a new diaphragm, so I'm looking for a rebuild kit. Any other advice here?

    vacuum actuated petcock

1979 XS400(F?) So after reinstallation, petcock seems to be functioning normally. Still stumped as to why that slot is there; what its function is.

    vacuum actuated petcock

Hey y'all. This week my petcock started pouring gas out the side, where the plastic spacer meets the square housing. Upon taking it apart, I found theres a premade hole in the diaphragm, as well as an outlet port- a half round channel about 1mm, heading diagonally down and out of the petcock...
