nice one cheers...... can you start an 81 xs400 on the kick start or do you need to always have the batt connected?

yeah i did that and from what i can tell it just runs straight from starter to battery no breaks or anything

yeah i have been but it would still spark i will try the relay but its finding the thing cause by the looks of the frame has had some alterations made to it any advice??? new to the bikes side of things.

Just brought a XS400 as a project been stood for a while before i bought it so drained old oil new oil in, drained tank and sorted filters Issue 1: connecting fresh battery but every time the positive cable hits the terminal on the battery its starts to spark and damage the battery terminal...
