Awesome, This means your stator and field coil is working! I am not sure on your bike if the regulator controls the ground or positive to the field coil. But looks like your making headway. On my bike the reg. controls ground side. I may be wrong but I thought 1979 was positive controlled, but...

will how I tested my field coil was put voltmeter on dc volts and connected to battery. I used good charged battery and started the bike, with bike running I unplugged the connecter to field coil gave it power and ground straight from battery, on my bike 1981 sx400 I did power to green wire...

Hey Drew, so I made it to o'reilly and they didnt show that exactly same part number but they say it crosses over, same thing, its a BWD SELECT part # R296 um it looks the same, guess I will go try it :bike:

oh yea if i cant find that reg. today is there another that will work from napa or o'reilly? and is there a wiring diag. for the new reg? :bike:

ok now I am over charging @ 3000 rpm voltage keeps climbing and @ 16 volts I went back to idle volts drop to around 13.4 I wired in the r292 reg the way drew show in his write up and it dont charge @ all not grounding field coil and if I try to ground with the connector pluged in is like...

Hi all update on charging sys. So checking the field coil green wire and black wire @ connector they both show positive battery volts, dont sound right. so i unplug the connector bike running, with power probe put power positive to the green wire to coil and ground the black wire and bike starts...
