Can anyone tell me if this will work on my 82 xs400. It has 7 wires so I'm assuming it has the regulator built in. Thanks

Is your 82 an SOHC or DOHC? The SOHC bikes all have separate regulators and rectifiers but I'm in the middle of planning a rewire and I'm wondering if the combined unit would work as well. If your bike is a DOHC and the part says it's for an XS400 it should snap right in.

Not too familiar with the DOHC bikes but looking at the wiring diagram it appears that it should work.
Might have to redo some connectors.

I've been doing some more looking and it seems like as long as you can connect it to the harness by whatever means it ought to work just the same as the stock setup.

Edit: bear in mind only that a combination reg/rec is going to have one ground for both components so bear that in mind when wiring it in.
