OK, I will risk asking yet another turn signal question. I have a 1980 XS400 G. I can find all the information I need for low voltage bulbs, LED's etc, so that's no issue.( And thank you everyone!) I keep seeing people say when you change the flasher relay you lose self cancelling. I have never had my bike on the road except for the test ride when I bought it. I brought it home and started working on it. So my dumb question is, does self cancel just automatically shut off your signals if you forget to? Because who cares if you lose that feature? As long as they shut off when I push the switch back in, that's all I need. Or does it mean you have to return the switch to the center position to shut them off? Either way, no big deal.

Yes.

Not many people.

The switch always returns to the center position. Push to turn off.
If yours doesn't return on its own you'll want to give it a cleaning.

allso not all push in depending on year and model mine pushes down and it has self cancelling signals

the way mine work is if u are at a stop they will stay one but when u get moving they will shut off after 10 sec or 490 feet what ever comes first

Good to know. Remains in center, push to turn off is what I'm used to on my trusty Yamaha 225 Serrow (XT)

I've had two, both had self cancel, neither worked. The 77 switch pushed in to cancel but the 80 requires you to push the switch back to the center. I had to take the 80 switch apart today because one of the screws that holes the lever in place was loose. There was nothing else in there that would effect the switch in any way but since I've never seen inside a new one my knowledge is limited.

ill take a picture of mine for you if u want mine is a 84 with self canceling and push down to turn off

is the spring in it???? and can we get some picks of it

Turns out the washer was wrong. It was just really tight.

I rebuilt my flasher with a 2200uf cap and swapped out the canceller unit. My signals cancel fine now. Bike is perfect now. Everything works.

I spent a day in town and around the country with new found self cancelling signals. How could you not enjoy this feature? Lol. Nostalgia perhaps.
