Just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to all who helped me with all my carburetor issues. I FINALLY (been working 55hrs a week!) got em rebuilt and shes running like a champ.

Oh BTW I don't think I've properly introduced myself. I'm Paul from Fort Worth, TX. Hoping to do a bobber or cafe racer :bike:

Hi Paul,

The carbs look great.

I am tempted to try that myself, but I've read you need a compressor of at least 5-CFM at 90-PSI to be effective.

What rating of compressor were you using for these results?

Thanks, DJ

Yea the more power and capacity the better. I used my dads craftsman. I think I saw it said 150 psi max and like a 30 gallon tank minimum. I could be mistaken. One tip is to avoid these little trigger type blowbguns. They are usually restricted for safety. Use straight fittings. You can just unplug it to turn itoff

Good tip! Just rebuilding my carbs now and didn't get them as clean as I'd like them to be using the carb cleaner and wire brush technique. Even stuck one in the dishwasher and it helped... but still not 100%.

I'll try this way this week sometime. I love how cheap it is... I have everything but the soda. Did you end up using all the soda, or would 1 box be enough?

Man I used it all. But they were as good as they were gonna get after the 1 1/2 boxes. the rest was just hopes of getting them better (their was still a few dark spots but I think the soda really loosened em up and made it easy to rub off with the steel wool). Its actually a pretty fast process. Had my little brother on the other end shaking the boxes and moving the hose around to get good flow lol :D . I shot soda down every passage on the things, then soaked em in water, blew em dry, scrubbed em down with the steel wool and gave em one good final shot with the air. Now my bike starts first or second kick.

They look beautiful!!! Good enough to put them in display :)

I am going to give this a try with my old carb unit.

Thanks for the pictures.

HAHAHAHA! I stumbled onto this thread and quickly realized that this is now MY bike. I wonder how many times it’s happened that an XS owner joins this forum, later sells the bike, then the new owner becomes a member.

I want to thank you guys for helping out with my bike - before I’d ever even seen it.

Paul - I hope you’re still subscribed to this thread so you get an email notification of this update and see what it looks like now. Like I told you when I bought it, my Mom lives only a couple of blocks away so maybe I’ll drop by sometime so you can check out how your old scoot is coming along. And good job on the carbs! They still work and look great.
