    Wanted - Project Bike

Looking for a 1977 or 1978 project bike in the Philadelphia area. Want a project bike that I can work on for the winter. Sort of a tight budget, but I've seen stories of guys buying $150 bikes. What can I find under $500 on here?

What is your "choke" RPM when starting

I'm not sure the manufacturer cared about the ignorance or arrogance of consumers. I think it's just a lot easier to put CHOKE on a small plastic piece instead of EN-RICHENER.

What is your "choke" RPM when starting

mine too, the manufacturers are WRONG, apparently.

    81 special II headers

I'm having similar troubles. More of a winter project for me, so I'm doing some investigation now.

A short "Build" History, and Introduction

What mufflers are those? I need to replace mine this winter and have had trouble finding something.

What is your "choke" RPM when starting

I have a '77. Full runs about 4000 rpms when cold, half runs just under 2500. I typically ride around the corner at half before reseating the enrichener.

    Spark plugs

If you're new to spark plugs and changing temperatures, NGK has a page on their site explaining the difference. Figured I'd share for fellow new guys. http://www.ngk.com.au/spark-plugs/technical-information/heat-range-explanation

    Switching to reserve to start

Thanks Ranger. I was able to clean some connections today and fix my speedometer light issue, but my horn stopped working. Always something. :wtf:

    Switching to reserve to start

Thanks the reply, I'm glad it's nothing I've been doing wrong. I'm a new rider and I'm still learning the idiosyncrasies of my bike. I'm sure if someone new took over my body they'd take years to learn my idiosyncrasies and I'm not quite as old as my xs. :D My only other real concern now is...

    Switching to reserve to start

Thanks for the recommendation. I have a '77 xs400. Still not sure what the problem is but I've been making adjustments to the idle and playing with the electric starter. My battery is running at 12.45, should I consider a new battery?

    The Age Old Battery Question

this is still a task in some army vehicles, but the new tracks have too many electronic components that we no longer have to worry about this. just don't forget to turn off master power!

Im the new guy. cant start my bike no neutral light.

Never necessary. I call it powder season.

    HEEEEEELP!!!!!

Are you sure it's not RC082001622? From my google search, the CB650SC-C VINs started with RC08. Maybe check that out? --Just kidding, that vin is for a 2005 Toyota Corolla.

    Switching to reserve to start

I sometimes have trouble starting my bike when I'm under a gallon of fuel left in the tank. Typically I switch to reserve and it starts up, then I'll switch it back after clearing the throat. Should I be using the choke for these starts instead?

    Intro

Hey Gents, new to the forum. Just saying hello and that I look forward to becoming as obsessed and fanatic as all of you are about the xs400. I'm sure I'll need a good deal of help in the near future, but until then, safe riding boys. See you on the street.
