    Start of a long process

Well guys it's been almost a year since I posted any content here but I have made a substantial amount t of progress. Looking over the thread I knew that I couldn't just leave it unfinished. Since I last posted I have re shaped my foam seat, custom upholstered my seat cover, repainted my tank...

    Start of a long process

Today I spent some time and got the foam for my seat formed. I then procededed to make a prototype seat cover out of a green camo frog pattern. The last picture is a picture of my practice sewing and the leather and thread that I will be using for my final seat cover.

Here is the best picture that I have of the back of the frame. It shows the brace that I was previously talking about.

    Start of a long process

I bought a MAC 2 into 1 exhaust on eBay about a year ago. The position of the muffler was conflicting with my rear sets so I did some cutting and got it to fit nicely inbetween my rearsets and back tire.

It's hard to say, these bikes were designed in the 70's-80's by an engineer that is probably smarter than us. Any chopping and modifications could seriously alter the handling of the bike. With that being said I would try putting around with the brace off and see how it feels before you chop it...

Sussex, for now I have the brace removed. I still have it and if need be I will put it on. I haven't rode it yet and I will let you know how it rides without the brace as soon as I wrap a few things up.

Okay Guys, I feel like its time for an update. I realize that last time I left you guys with a cliff hanger. I have done a lot of work to the bike since I have last posted. That being said I will begin with explaining my logic on the hackery that took place. I realize that this hack job may...

I think that leaving the stock shock mounts in place and pulling them in .25" on both sides is not going to make a huge differece. I will be putting a brace in beteeen the shock towers. Also the hoop will add alot of rigidity. I honestly think it will be stronger than stock. I will do some rough...

    Start of a long process

Well Guys, I have been busy but have been slowly plugging away at the build. since my last update I have successfully narrowed the frame a little bit. I have my hoop and I need to turn some more slugs on the lathe to mount the hoop. Also, i have done some minor fabrication and cleaning up of...

    Start of a long process

Well guys, Its been a few months since we last talked :P I recently got home from Afghanistan and I would say I have jumped right in to the build of my bike. I got to ride the bike around in stock form and got to get a feel for the bike. For the bike being 35 years old almost everything worked...

My Cafe Racer Build (and Re-Build)

Lots of good looking parts there, Cant wait to see some more pictures of the build. What size are the tires and the widths of the rims? I am thinking about buying new hoops and doing to a 18" rear and I debating between the 2.15x18 and the 2.5x18 rear wheels.

    exhaust wrap

I have seen some Metal Zip tie looking things that might be great for securing the header wrap without sticking out like a sore thumb. I could have sworn they were sold by Dime City Cycles but I couldn't find them there. Here is the link to some that are a little more pricier sold by MikesXs...

    Start of a long process

Hello all, My name is Cory. I just purchased my first street bike. It is an '80 xs400 special. It does run however it has 28k miles so I am assuming I will have to diagnose the clearances and probably adjust the valves at a minimum. Unluckily for me, I cannot even touch it until may. I am...
