For Sale - 1978 Fenders, side covers, seat, signals & more to come

As the title states, I have these items and a few more from a U.S. spec 1978 XS 400 E. Pictures will be posted tomorrow. It's all in fairly solid condition (nothing is destroyed or broken), but if you are comfortable contacting me sight unseen that's fine too. Make me an offer on any of it, I'm...

    Manual petcock issues

Hello again all, and I apologize for the wall of text, For reference, I'm working on a 1978 xs400E. After changing the exhaust to a more free flowing pair of slip ons from stock and to K&N pods on the stock H pipe, I rejetted +2 both pilots and mains to 47.5 and 147.5 on each, and also got new...

    Reading plugs?

I have been running the bike for a week now, '78 XS400. Just put 30 miles on today and wanted to see what you all think of what these plugs might be indicating. I can't tell for the life of me whether they're running lean or ideal or what, it's just something I haven't picked up yet, and the...

    MJK's '78 Brat

I am attacking this differently than most build threads. We already finished the bike, but just want to give back to the community if we can after learning so much from this forum in the process, from tips and expertise to inspiration. My cousin and I are both 20 and in college, and he texted...

How to dry bleed master cylinder?

First and foremost, thanks to all who have commented on my two most recent threads. You have been awesome, and I hope my dumb questions and your answers have benefitted others besides myself. My question is straightforward: how do you dry bleed the rear brake on a '78 XS400? I disassembled and...

How to free seized brake piston?

While putting the finishing touches on what I consider a nice 1978 XS400 build, the front brake began giving me trouble and the piston is now firmly seized in the caliper assembly. The master cylinder is not the proximate issue (new HEL hoses and master cylinder rebuild kit), the piston is just...

Wanted - '78 XS400 front brake caliper assembly

Part number is 1L9-25810-03-00, is also on 1976-77 XS360 bikes as well from my understanding. Essentially the piece that houses the piston on the front brake, and the piston too. It has to work, but willing to pay what I consider a very fair amount and shipping.

    Need for a Rear Hoop?

My cousin and I recently bought a near mint '78 XS400 with 6,000 miles for a good price to customize. After timing and carb cleans, the bike runs like clockwork in all rev ranges. More to the point of this thread, we are now in the process of building it "Brat-ish" style with a flat seat, but...
