    Oiling the points wick

Silicone grease works as, i think, it is recommended but here in Germany ther are many using simple and regular engine-oil. I use it too and it works :wink2: Greets from Munich Hannes

    new member old Questions

I would say its a 79er or earlier, i drive the same model with rear disc-brake and square-tank. Beside that, she looks pretty and quite original, i only don´t recognize the double-stripes on the side-covers, but she looks standard. There are lots of shops in Europe for parts, only a few parts...

    Newtronics wiring CKT-yam4

Some folks in our forum use the "helotronik-ignition".You need two of them, one is 60€,works superb, easy to install and no coils needed. It is even upgradable to contact-less-ignition. Just an input! Greets from Munich Hannes ps:http://www.helotronik.de/

    What grade oil?

I will go this spring with 20w50 because my bike consumes a little. 15w40 will do it as well but it´s important to use only mineral oil, all the synthetic stuff makes the xs leaking and the clutch slipping. Cheers from Munich Hannes

    1977 xs400

soundslike lack of gas. try to run the engine on "pri" on the petcock. if it works, its a non-working vacuum-tube between carb and reservoir. On the other hand,i had this in the beginning as well, sorted it with new sparkplugs and a correct timing of the ignition. specialy the distance of the...

    Pistons...

nope , the xs400 isn´t a "parallel twin" its a "180 degree-crank engine", very easy to hear by the sound, if you listen carefully while the engine is on idle. Greets from Munich Hannes

    Intro and Build

To be honest,i like the look. Its a very classic look with the origina handlebars. I was riding for half a year back on Majorca almost straight dragbars (dragbar by Fehling). Lower proportion but almost no noticable change in riding and the feel of it. Have a look Greets from Munich Hannes
