if you goto pods (and it's the only change you make) you *should* go up at least 1 probably 2 jet sizes on the main/air jets. these bikes run pretty lean as it is, and pods allow alot more air than stock in. your milage may vary though. i'd suggest buying a spread of jets when you put...

    ultrasonic cleaning

was the metal itself pitted/dissolved? or was it just the stuff coming out of it that was the problem? to be quite honest, you might have better luck with kerosene, or paint thinner, lol. i wouldn't use any phosphor / organic solvents. good ol' fashioned berryman's or an aluminum...

they seem to flow pretty good. granted they're still restrictive, but slightly less so than stock foam filters. you *shouldn't* have to rejet, but you milage may vary compared to mine. i'm running a 78 xs400-2e, and they ran just fine until one of my coil packs fried yesterday.

try removing that cheesy rubber bushing. it's not going to be a deep fit, but there is enough room for the clamp to keep a good bite. it's not going anywhere (unless you ride around without side covers all day long, lol

yep, partsnmore is legit, i ordered some kits and filters from them a few weeks ago in prep for spring. the filter necks are a little short, but a little persuasion and they work real nice the filter material is a thick paper. i think they might last a couple seasons if you clean them...

Make Offer - XS 400 Special " Name your own price"

I don't suppose you'd be willing to sell me a starter motor, relay, switch, chain, and clutch, and wiring. i want to adapt my kicker to electric start (my knees are going bad) .. assuming you still have them anyway.
