    82 Maxum Ignition Issues

After closer inspection I found that the new spark plug caps I bought were 5000ohm resistor caps. Replaced them with non resisitor caps which is what was on the bike. Now have very very weak spark both sides. This is killing me slowly.

    82 Maxum Ignition Issues

That's an issue I've never dealt with before. Tough to see if that's actually happening on this bike, what with the coils tucked so damn far up in the tube. If the left coil was arcing to the frame that shouldn't cause a weak spark on the right though?

    82 Maxum Ignition Issues

That does sound feasible, on that thought, if I disconnect the left coil, I should have regular conditions on the right side, and proper spark in theory.

    82 Maxum Ignition Issues

If the ignition switch wires were shorting on the bars, the bike would want to randomly engage the starter, the shock I'm getting is a diluted spark plug shock. Which I'm thinking may be caused by a shorted out coil?? I have no idea, like I said, tired of banging my head on the wall...

    82 Maxum Ignition Issues

I'm done banging my head on the wall lol. I'm working on my wife's 1982 Maxum 400. She was riding home from work and the bike suddenly started dropping one cylinder, then picking it up and dropping it again at random. When she got home I determined no spark to one cylinder. When I turned...

    Yamaha XS400 Wiring Diagrams

Hey guys, will the xs400f be the same as the J? I found an 82 wiring harness for a Seca but the color codes are completley different. My wife's bike dropped spark on one cylinder and then fried the inline fuse in the clutch switch system. Why the **** is a fuse in the cluctch switch system...

    New 82 XS400J From Vancouver Island B.C.

Lol, I'm originally from Saskatchewan so I really don't hate anyone. That's our reputation. As for dropping the forks, I'm not sure that would get the look I'm going for, to even it out you would have to cut the rear down by at least an inch or so. I might just kind of go for a stripped down...

    New 82 XS400J From Vancouver Island B.C.

I've already got the pod filters from uni, haven't mounted them yet, also fiberglass heat wrap for the pipes, di-noc carbon wrap, but haven't quite found a solution to the height of the bike. It is pretty high. I'm in the middle of building a 92 seca II also and that's proving to be slightly...

    Tire considerations

I picked up my brand new dunlop's from Motovan.com, they have exact fit matches for bikes back to the late 60's early 70's no problem. Not as wide of selection but a lot of really solid tires in matched pairs.

    New 82 XS400J From Vancouver Island B.C.

Well it started being full time work with full time small business, now it's just one full time career. Not that it doesn't keep me excessively busy, but a slight bit of sanity has returned to my life.

    New 82 XS400J From Vancouver Island B.C.

The title states the specifics. I picked up an 82 xs400j a few weeks back for $300 not running, spent a few hours in the shop draining 4 litres of fuel from the oil, quick carb clean, new tires and she's back on the road. Waiting for the petcock rebuild kit to clear up the leaky fuel issue...
